It was another maths investigative lesson! This time round, pupils were instructed to use paper clips, which were strung into tens, to measure each group member's hand span, arm span and height.
After measuring and recording, they had to measure their family members' spans and answer HOT questions.

(above) Why did Chun Lin look so worried when Siti was measuring his hand span?
(above) Rachel (far right) must be thinking: Hmmm...why is Siti's arm span longer than mine?
(above) Wee Khong was thrilled to have his arm span measured by a meticulous classmate.
(above) Start on his left first since he has injuired his right arm.
(above) "Hehe, now it's my time to rest while you measure my arm span!" said the happy Aaron.
(above) Charlton (the boy with hands on his cheeks) was so amazed that Adeline lay so straight while Justin measured her height.
(above) "No, no. You should start from her longest finger!" commanded Pei Shan. So Aaron, you better listen to her. Otherwise, our dear Gabriena would have to stay grounded on the floor for a longer time!
Can you put on your thinking cap for the following HOT questions?
Can you put on your thinking cap for the following HOT questions?
1. Is the arm span of a person proportionate to his/her height? That is does a taller person have a longer arm span?
2. Can a shorter person have a longer arm span than a taller person?
Isn't it wonderful to see how the children were engrossed in the investigation...from their smiling faces and intrigued or puzzled look at times?
That is the joy of discovery learning!
