Water Caltrope

These are water caltropes. Some of you must have seen it at the mooncake & tea counter.

Does it look scary? I think so. From far, it looks like a bat.

It is also called water chestnut and is an aquatic plant. It is a fruit that bears the shape of a bull's head.

How do we eat it? (Thanks to Mdm Sandy Yu who researched and taught us!)

Boil it with some salt added into the water. After 10-15 minutes, remove them and crack the outer shell. Now, the fruit inside can be eaten.
